Josh & Amy Madrid

Hello, Friends!

We are the Madrids: Josh, Amy, Ondine (8), and Andromeda (6).

We are serving in Eurasia Northwest. We will return in our next term to serve in Latvia under the guidance of Jordy and Elizabeth Nunez, missionaries to Estonia.

We are so excited to reestablish the connection of AGWM here in the States back to Latvia after the country has been empty of US-AGWM missionaries for years.

Amy grew up as a missionary kid in Latvia with her parents, Jerry and Terri Roberts. Joshua shared the call to missions, and through much prayer and seeking also felt a deep love for and call to Latvia. 

Latvia 

Lavia is a nation of approximately 2 million people in Northeastern Europe. This beautiful nation and people experienced a difficult period in their history after WWII when the Soviet Union ruled Eastern Europe with an iron fist, outlawing much of Christianity and persecuting believers. Now, Latvia is largely atheist and has a meager church attendance. The result of this spiritual gap is a deep sense of hopelessness as many Latvians struggle with alcoholism and suicide rates remain high. The generational gap between ages is intensified by the cultural differences between those who were raised in the USSR and those who were born into freedom and are reaching for Western European ideals.

Latvia is a wonderful, artistic, and deep-thinking people who hunger for spiritual fulfillment. We believe that Jesus is the answer to this spiritual thirst and the healer of desperate minds.  When we reach Latvia, we desire to build connections with Gen-Z and Millennials in universities and social clubs, creating deep relationships and establishing a safe place for them to come to know the gospel and find a community of believers to support them.
